dino head My Almost-daily Journal

About
I love trying out new things, especially when it comes to internet technology. I never really kept a journal, but it's something that I've always wanted to do. Now, everybody will get a chance to look inside my twisted, and somewhat-warped mind. I've also subscribed to Audio Blog, so a few times a week, I'll leave actual voice blogs. Very cool!

How awesome! I called in on talk radio 97.1 FM Greg-and-Michelle and I was
actually on the air for a long time! I'd say at least five minutes! Very cool!

4.7 HO V8 vs. 4.7 standard V8
Wow. There sure are a great deal of differences between the standard 4.7 and the HO 4.7. I was pretty impressed!

Even its "track" stats were impressive (I've also seen 6.7s 0-60 on another site):
Speed:

0-60 mph: 6.9 (Motor Trend)
0-62 mph: (0-100 km/h): 8.3 (DCX)
1/4 mile / speed: 15.4 / 86.6 mph (Motor Trend)
Top speed (w/ limiter): 118 mph
Top speed (w/o limiter): 128 mph (DCX)

This link was pretty useful:
Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ - 4.7 HO Intake and Exhaust system

Summary of HO engine feature differences (Compared to standard 4.7 liter engine):

1. Camshaft - custom profile lobes (designed for increased performance)
2. Connecting rods - modified, with floating wrist pins (vs pressed-fit pins in standard V8)
3. Crankshaft - forged steel (vs cast iron in standard V8)
4. Crankshaft damper - unique to HO
5. Cylinder heads - different shaped combustion chambers (for improved airflow)
6. Exhaust tip - chrome (2002 models only, decontented for 2003 models. Available only as a one-piece assembly with muffler)
7. Fuel injectors - higher flow (+3.3 lb/hr)
8. Intake manifold - modified (shorter runners)
9. Intake - low-restriction intake system (different resonator, air filter, air filter hose and housing)
10. Knock sensors - two, stereo
11. Main bearings - tri-metal (vs bi-metal in standard V8, designed specifically for the HO engine)
12. PCM calibration - unique programming
13. Pistons - dome shaped for increased compression ratio
14. Spark plugs - platinum tipped
15. Valves - unique exhaust valves (same lift as standard V8)
16. Valve springs - upgraded valve springs (intake & exhaust. Larger diameter wire and more coils)
